introduction for paper 2

In my opinion, Second Life is for people with self confidence problems. Though you can virtually become whoever or whatever you want, the people you get to know through Second Life don’t know you for you, they know you for your avatar. I think Second Life is a good source to meet people, but an awful source to really get to know people. You can meet people but because of the lack of actual social interaction you can get you can only get to know someone as far as the Second Life world will take you, which isn’t very far at all.

Introduction

In SecondLife, music is used for get together and hangout situations. Dance clubs and jazz clubs are also really neat places to meet new and exciting people that have the same interests as you. Music plays a dinosauric role within SecondLife, genres such as classical, jazz and club/techno are significant.

I have been to a plethora of different places in Second Life. I have found two places that really grab my attention, Eden Park Ballroom and the Love Hemisphere Jazz Club. Each location has interesting and Unique Qualities.
Eden Park Ballroom has three purposes: for dancing with a partner, for proposing and marrying a partner and it is also a park. I first discovered this place when I was trying to find a place to sit quietly and do my homework while being in contact with some of my friends. When I look at The Eden Park Ballroom, the most unique thing I see about it is the glowing star fountain flowing from the sky. In the center of the park is a dark green dance floor filled with happy, and romantic dancing couples. On one side of the dance floor is an alter. I assume this is for marriage only because there is a bride and groom in the tiling. This alter is surrounded by pretty flowery decorations. On another side of the dance floor is a mural behind a pond like area.

The Love Hemisphere Jazz Club is for the jazz lovers in all of us. It is a place with 365 degree HD steaming video of nonstop jazz. Not only does this club have good music but it has a dance floor also. This club also has a bar but does not serve alcohol, just good old iced tea. The Love Hemisphere Jazz Club is a great place to meet new people and experience new things.

On InfoIsland there is a schedule of events. On that schedule a few that I might actually go to include Smooth Jazz Fridays at Jazz Cat from 5:00 to 6:30, and the Edgar Allan Poe Readings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the Winter Wonderland Dance on January 30, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00.

I found this place on InfoIsland that was all about the Inauguration.
This was The Alliance Virtual Library - Foster’s building.
This is Peace Park a religious place within InfoIsland.

This is Roof Astronomy.

I went to Apocalypse. Apocalypse is exactly what it sounds like, an awful, dirty, dead place. I went to the park just on the other side of the metro station. When I think of a park you think of beautiful green grass and trees. That’s not the case at this park. The swings were broken and the merry-go-round was broken and it just didn’t look like a happy place to go to.

The next place I went to was a magical place call Chakryn Forest. The place is so full of beautiful objects it was hard to find just one thing to take a picture of. The trees are giant and there are pretty statues everywhere! There is a really beautiful gazebo and falling leaves too.

Avatar Appearance

My original plan was to make an avatar that looked like me. She was thick. Her hair was such a bright red it made Shirley Temple’s hair look dull. Her eyes were bluer than the ocean on a bright, sunny day. She had freckles all over her body and was quite a bit paler than the rest of the avatars, but nonetheless, she was my avatar.
I started going around, meeting new people and ended up meeting Katsykiwi Laville. She is French and her English is very good. She decided to basically give me a makeover. So I said okay go for it. She made her this tall, skinny, even paler, model like figure. I didn’t mind though because I have only had my avatar for a day or two and I was very open to new things. I walked around like that for a while until I met a guy from California.
Arny Footman and I talked for a while. I told him why I was on Second Life and he seemed very interested but he told me she looked way too much like a NOOB. I decided that wasn’t a good thing so I told him to make her look not so new. He agreed.
As of now she has darker skin, but still pale. She has acquired a mole too! Her eyes are now a more realistic green that compliments her hair very nicely.
Overall, I am very pleased with the appearance of my avatar, KierstenAbbie. She is very pretty. I imagine I am going to change the appearance of her more than once. I think she will probably change as my mood changes and I get more comfortable with Second Life.
